Born in Plymouth in 1951, where he studied Graphic Art and Design at the College of Art. He has worked as a freelance illustrator, but now concentrates on painting in watercolour. This medium compliments his undoubted ability and versatility and enables him to capture the mood and atmosphere of the subject he is portraying.
Michael is a teacher and tutor of watercolour painting in the Adult Education Service. He is a member of the Plymouth Society of Artists and he is currently president of the
Plymouth Watercolour Society.
As an established water colourist, he is making a significant contribution to the range and variety of works to be found in the West Country, and is also an exhibitor at the R.I. and the Summer Exhibitions. His commissions include works for Lord Foot, George Creber, H.M.S.Raleigh and Sutton Harbour. He was commissioned by Plymouth Ground Work Trust to paint a picture for presentation to Her Majesty the Queen on the occasion of her visit to the Royal William Yard. A commemorative picture produced to celebrate the presence and
service of the Royal Navel Hospital in Plymouth over the past 200 years, painted by
Michael, was later reproduced as a very successful limited edition print, which has already become a collector's piece and an investment for the future. Michael is a winner of the
Marine Painting Exhibition and Competition held at Devon port 'Navy Days' in 1993. He exhibited successfully in Little Venice and Chelsea, in addition to his yearly exhibitions on the Barbican, and his first solo exhibition in Cornwall at Chase Art Gallery, follows by 2 successful solo exhibitions at Chase Art Centre.
